The Iceman Photoscan project represents a significant scientific contribution to the study and dissemination of knowledge about the world’s oldest natural wet mummy. The special circumstances of the mummy’s preservation do not allow its close-up viewing by the general public. This book describes in detail the individual steps from planning and implementation to the publication of the project in the form of a website. This enables the viewer to have a vivid virtual experience without compromising the necessary conservation conditions. The aim is to give a broad public the opportunity to discover and study a cultural asset that is unique in the world.

Many think I am a lucky man because I am one of few people in the world who has the possibility to see at first hand and literally touch one of the most ancient and best preserved mummies ever discovered. In fact, for 10 years now, I have been personally responsible for the preservation of the Iceman, a human mummy dating back 5,300 years.
The uniqueness of these valuable remains has required a long and thorough process of technological development, which has led to the current solutions adopted for efficacious preservation of the Iceman. The enthusiasm and the knowledge of doing something unique and important, has inspired me to push on with new projects. This book is dedicated to the most recent of these projects: "Iceman photoscan" - made possible by EURAC, "Institute for Mummies and the Iceman" in Bolzano which gave me concrete support and the resources necessary for the creation of a system that provides a full and detailed photographic documentation of the mummy's entire body, and which can be easily accessed by anyone via the internet.
Thus, everyone has the opportunity to see and study what I have had the privilege of accessing over the years.
I am sure that the uniqueness of this documentation shared freely worldwide shall soon provide unexpected responses from the scientific community.
My underlying hope is that of having achieved a milestone in sharing, via the internet, of Archaeological Finds which belong to every one of us.
